Parirua #2 (Porirua Harbour)

Parirua #2 is an acrylic on framed canvas painting is part of my Harbour series. The term Parirua itself is the original Māori name of Porirua Harbour, meaning “twin flowings of the tide”. The two water systems of the harbour (the Pauatahanui Inlet and the Onepoto Arm) were once eco systems that supported a bountiful supply of fish such as sole and cod, eels and sting rays, seals, penguins, and shell fish such as cockles and pipis. The painter's studio and living quarters feature magnificent views of the harbour and inlets and this painting is an expression of the eternal rhythm of the powerful flowing in and out of the two tides.
