My Beloved
My Beloved is an acrylic on framed canvas painting, part of the new Celebration series. Before Christianity infiltrated the world with their devastating morality of hatret, rejection and loathing, many cultures around the world (Egyptian, Greek, Japanese, Polynesian) respected, acknowledged, celebrated and honored the deep love and bond between male lovers, whether both young or between older and younger lovers.
In 2400 BC, two men named Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep were buried together in one of the most elaborate tombs in Egypt's Saqqara necropolis - and the artwork inside shows them in poses reserved exclusively for married couples. They're depicted holding hands, embracing nose-to-nose (the Egyptian version of kissing), and positioned together in ways that leave little doubt about their relationship.
My painting is a celebration of their love - withstanding the ravages of time – to still be able to sense their intimacy and closeness.
