Breaching

Breaching is part of the Hokianga series,  a group of paintings (acrylic on canvas or woodpanel), created during a 5-week visual art residency at the Rawene Church studio in the Hokianga (April 2023). 

This particular painting is an expression of the action to open, to get through, to break through. Like a whale that breaches the surface of the ocean, at times we must gather the energy and the courage to enter another realm of possibilities. It is a dynamic, perhaps even violent act of getting a taste of a different reality.
